As soon as I walked through the door, I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff. They went out of their way to make me feel special and appreciated. They made sure that their qualifications were obvious. I was confident that I was under the care of a professional. This provider has so much helpful information available online. They have an impressive website that's easy to use, with forms that you can fill out before your appointment. They also have a great online presence in multiple directories. I love that they are always more than happy to answer my questions, and actually welcome questions. I've felt awkward at some other places I've visited when I've tried to ask a lot of questions, but not here. There was lots of available parking at their office. I was glad that I didn't have to drive around looking for parking. I chose Dr. Bartiss because of the excellent work he did with my nephew when he had to straighten his eyes and wear glasses. He treated my children very well and answered all of the questions they had. When I asked questions he took his time to answer them. If you are looking for an eye doctor for your child this office is the place to go. The staff were also very approachable and treated the kids like stars thank you.

I took my 5 year old son to Dr. Bartiss on a referral from my optometrist. He had told us that he wanted an ophthalmologist to take a look at him but he felt that exercises or glasses could easily correct his mild case of lazy eye (his right eye drifts in the evening sometimes if he is tired) and he stressed that he felt he did not need surgery. Dr. Bartiss saw him (after we had been there for over an hour) told me he wanted me to watch a DVD so we could then later talk about my son's "package" and he would see us again once my son's eyes were dilated and I had seen the DVD. 45 minutes later (it takes 15-20 to dilate your eyes) I was plopped in front of a DVD that starts "When you have eye surgery, some things to know about are..."! He never mentioned to me that he felt surgery was needed! Then 30 minutes later he came back in, checked my son's eyes again and sent me to schedule the surgery, which he wanted to perform in a mere 18 days!! As soon as I got home I called another pediatric ophthalmologist at UNC who got us in the next day. He stressed that children should NOT be operated on until at the earliest age 10 unless the case is extreme!! After replaying a conversation with one of Dr. Bartiss's nurses about how his optical shop is going out of business because of people like me who buy their frames online, I got to wondering about his true reasons for wanting to operate on my son's eyes...did he truly feel it was needed or did he just want the money to make up for a failing business!? I will NEVER recommend him! I am terrified to think about how many parents have gone through surgery with their child just because this man has a Ph.D. after his name and didn't bother to get a second opinion!
