Castaneda's judgment is distorted and self-serving. A presumed professional gives opinions and conclusions about a woman he NEVER MET, NEVER TREATED basing them on his significantly younger woman friend's perspective. Young woman is by nature (so many are) arrogant and unaccommodating to anything connected to her family, but, she is quite an attractive female. Female then forwards CASTANEDA's rant, to her mother's husband: FEMALE: "Stuff with my family has been out of control and if it's not too much trouble, I'd like to ask for your advice on something. In a brief, my mother was in a car accident about 6 weeks ago...she's been unravelling... She's currently there and she told the doctors and nurses to not give me information on her condition... it's exacerbating her already "awful personality...", CASTANEDA: "Well, I had several thoughts, given that your mom is in a situation with which I am very familiar in my practice. Let's start with my first thought, which is that your mom might be beyond help. She has a personality disorder, and now - most definitely - behavioral disinhibition... Your mom does not have good judgment to begin with, so an intervention will have less of an impact than in reasonable people. What to do? The first thing is to realize there really is not an established plan of action to follow. So, you try to do something, but you'd be wise to remember that given laws and privacy limitations, and her personality disorder, chances are high that your mom is beyond help. In short, consult with an emergency room psychiatrist, and see if there is legal room for involuntary commitment. Write back, and I'll try and help from a distance. END ---- CASTENDA emphasizes that someone he has never met, treated nor has any facts about "is beyond help" essentially, Castaneda gives his young friend the pass to think of her mother as "beyond help" and even suggests involuntary commitment! Mother and daughter do not have a relationship thanks to this unethical man but he sure has one with her!
