Dr. Hoekstra barely gave me any useful or true information at all. I did research prior to going to any physician see if the procedure that we were requesting was even an option for my teenage child. I did not wish to waste anyone's time, but through research I felt my child would be helped with this particular surgery. Halfway through our appointment when the physician heard me state that I did research online, his entire demeanor changed and he became aloof, arrogant, and almost angry. The staff & his assistant were very friendly and professional, and went above and beyond. His assistant was awesome, and told me that because my child's growth plates were wide open, he would have a high rate of success. She discussed all options with us & the possibilities. Which completely threw us for a surprise when we met the doctor in our consultation with the assistant present. The DOCTOR didn't help me as much as I was hoping and didn't answer all my questions. He said that they surgery would not help at all.
The office was easy enough to find, eventhough we live in Alamogordo NM. I would never visit them again. I was very disappointed.
FYI. We were referred to a specialist, Dr. Jacob S. Heydemann, in El Paso TX, by Dr. Romanelli in Las Cruces NM (our next stop after our Visit to Carrie Tingley). Surgery was performed 1.5 yrs ago, it was successful, and my now 17 yr old teenage son, can run without pain for the first time in years. Also, his growth plates are STILL WIDE OPEN, which Dr. Hoekstra had informed me were completely closed. Since our visit with Carrie Tingley Hospital my son has grown over 4 inches.
