Beware.

This dentist office has shown a huge lack of professionalism. I will prove it to you soon with an e-mail I received from one of the dentists.

But the big issue you must know: A missed appointment at this clinic will cost you. $75 to be exact. This may seem like a reasonable policy to a business owner, but in a poor economy lives are very hectic and $75 charges are complete asinine. I made an appointment during a visit in December and missed my appointment in March- three months later, during a time that I am working 50-70 hours a week just to get by. I expressed my dissatisfaction and said I'll not be returning, and they without hesitation made me inactive and that was that.

There was no attempt to reconcile the situation or make me as a patient/client happy.

I e-mailed Fisher Jones after to elaborate on how I felt. You can decide for yourself whether this is the type of business you want to work with.

MY EMAIL TO THEM:

Your $75 fee for missing appointments lost you a patient/client. And Joann did not even hesitate to make me inactive when I let her know I'd not be coming back because of it.

People's lives are hectic. I work 50-60 hours a week climbing utility poles and crawling under houses. I cannot always remember to make appointments- especially ones I made months ago. And in fact someone was supposed to call me a long time ago to talk about what my insurance would cover and out of pocket expenses, and I never did receive that phonecall.

It's obvious you guys are only concerned about money... or maybe you're not, because you'll no longer be getting mine. Either way prepare for some negative online reviews. I don't take this kinda stuff lying down.

Dear Joseph,
I am disappointed to hear you are unhappy with our service. It is obvious to me we have gone above and beyond to try and accommodate your schedule and work with you regarding your insurance benefits. You missed an appointment in December and were aware of the short notice cancellation fee. I think it would be best for you to find another office, one that might take you on a walk in basis as you can't seem to keep appointments. Everyone leads a hectic life, but there are tools we all use to help remind us of appointments we keep. There are calendars, smart phones, lists, etc.

Believe me, I have missed appointments in the past, but every time it has happened, I called to apologize for my mistake, not threaten them with bad reviews online. That is because when you make an appointment it is a mutual agreement that you will show up at an agreed upon time on an agreed upon day. We had reserved an hour our time out of our schedule to take care of you. The overhead of our practice doesn't go away because you don't show up. We still must pay people their hourly wage and we still must keep the lights on and the equipment going. We are in the business of taking care of people's dental needs, but it is a business. The 75.00 charge doesn't begin to cover the costs of that lost hour. It is a deterrent that will help remind you to keep your appointment and honor our schedule as well as yours. How would you feel if you took time out of your day, came to your appointment and we told you we couldn't see you? Would you feel like we just wasted your valuable time? Our mission statement includes the words "shared responsibility." That is how it has to work for us. We are more than happy to give you a courtesy call two days before the appointment to remind you, but....really? Our responsibility ends after that. If you forget to pay your income taxes by April 15th (16th this year) are you going to give the IRS a bad online review as well because they didn't call you to remind you? If you walk out of the grocery store forgetting to pay for your groceries, would they say to you "Oh that's okay, just bring us some money next time"?

I take great offense to your comment that we are only concerned about money. We provide great care for our patients, volunteer a lot of our personal time in the community for good causes, and connect with people on a personal basis every day. If we only cared about money we wouldn't be doing these things. We spend a lot of time in our practice and are happy and honored to do so.

If you want additional conversation on this matter, please feel free to call me personally.

Dr. Jim

MY RESPONSE:

I have never been charged a fee for a missed appointment at a doctors office, dentists office, or any other medically related appointment. This is the first time, and the last time.

I assure you that this conversation will also be circulated. Your $75 policy will hurt you a lot more, word of mouth is far more powerful and your lack of professionalism, grace and understanding will eventually kill your business in this economy.

Good luck.

They answered my questions and spent a lot of time with me. I didn't feel like they were trying to rush my appointment at all. It was very easy to get an appointment. They have a very flexible schedule and get me in quickly every time.
