I went to this dentist hoping to get a few cavities filled. I found her in the phone book and thought that the building looked nice and when I did research on the internet the reviews looked good. I wish that I had come to this site first and read the reviews (I can now sympathize with Dan). I at first had to schedule a consultation which was a bit annoying but I understood. The office is in an old, pretty decently kept building however it is the kind of place where it is apparent that "efforts" are being made to make the office have an over all appearance of being clean, well kept (ferns, leather couches, glass chess board). It is apparent that appearance matters to them and that they want to seem "well off". When you go back this becomes even more apparent by all the technology that they proudly display (I am making mention of this because it is the type of technology that is a bit finicky and makes it clear that they are trying to make a point. 'We have enough money to spend on useless if somewhat impressive technology'). I believe that they've focused on this to the point where they forgo many basics of dentistry and the over all impression is showy and not at all reassuring. Sales is very important and numerous attempts will be made to get you to buy the products that they have. I also noticed that the answers you get to questions change from person to person. (An example being that one person told me that I had great teeth, another terrible teeth. Another saying that my cavities were shallow and then not shallow. It seems rather unbelievable that the opinions could change so drastically.) It is also clear that Invisalign is a major money maker at that particular office and therefore takes precedence and is at the forefront of their minds. In the end I decided to let them fill some of my teeth mostly because I wasn't sure where else to go and I believed some of the better reviews about them that I'd read (which I now have a suspicion that the staff wrote). I got three teeth filled. The result was that since then I haven't been able to chew solid foods (It has been weeks). I am not someone with a low tolerance for pain as I have had other health issues that are much worse but I am telling you that the pain that I am now left with is horrible (sleeping with an ice pack on your face horrible). Now the appointment that I had was on a Wednesday. I was in pain all day long that day and the day after that with an on and off fever (which I had not had before) but I decided to wait it out as I thought that it could be just an unpleasant side effect from my dental work but by Friday I was concerned. Unfortunately the office is closed every Friday and they do not leave an emergency number nor did they discuss what to do in an emergency. Suffice to say I ended up in an emergency room on a holiday (very unpleasant) and made an appointment for the next working day (Monday). First I'd like to say that the office staff acted very rude about this, insinuated that I was just sick or had a low tolerance for pain (as Frances Anne Johnston herself would later insinuate repeatedly) and recommended that I come in through their back door during their lunch break (they called back 3 times to make sure that I would in fact be using the BACK DOOR. I use capitals only because the stress that they themselves placed on this little detail). At that time I was still in pain, I couldn't chew (as I still can't), I had a high fever (101 F) and my jaw was locking up to the point where I could hardly talk. My face was swollen a little but the other problems seemed so much more paramount that they paled in comparison. I had been put on antibiotics that the emergency room doctor suggested. The only thing that Frances Anne Johnston would say ( and I am going to stress here that I was treated rudely) was that she had warned me that there could be problems (which she did not. She said I could eat and drink and that after the numbing agent faded I shouldn't feel any pain) and that most likely it was my bite being off or my not being able to handle the pain of the procedure. I've gotten other fillings before but it's never been like this one. She looked at my teeth, took some pictures, took an x-ray, washed her hands and then told me that I was fine, gave me more numbing agent and told me to stop taking the antibiotics (which I did). Not once was I checked in so I was not on their books as an official appointment. It was disconcerting but I overlooked it. She once again said that she had warned me about possible discomfort (She said this upwards of 5 times and this is simply not true. There was someone else in the room that can even confirm this). I left not feeling any better, with nothing being solved and extremely disheartened. My tooth hadn't been bothering me at all before this procedure and the one that was bothering me (the gum was all swollen along with my face) was supposedly a very shallow one and upon looking at an x ray it was in fact quite shallow. So I waited several weeks but nothing changed. At the time when I went to see her about the issue that I was having I had had every intention of going back to see her again. I felt that I should give her another chance and that sometimes (as in anything involving humans) mistakes can be made and that leniency should always be used. What turned me off completely to this idea was the fact that she denied what was right in front of her and did not take any responsibility. I am not a needlessly judgmental person nor am I opposed to giving someone another chance. I am really not but I felt that her failure to take responsibility, be polite and handle the situation in a mature manner was a sign that something was not right. She takes zero accountability for her actions (she must have a history of doing this given Dan's review). I went to another dentist because of the pain that I am still experiencing. X rays were done and it appears that she drilled too far and has now gotten so close to the root that I am most likely facing an extraction or a root canal. I am very disappointed. Not only that, my new dentist told me that I probably should've been kept on those antibiotics in order to avoid the position that I am now in (due to possible infection that can set up as a result of this mistake that was made). He says there is also evidence of nerve damage due to a botched injection of the numbing agent (it certainly felt off when it happened but I thought that perhaps it was normal and I just didn't remember it from other procedures). The thing is that I wouldn't have blamed her if she was just up front and honest with me but she wasn't and that is the main reason that I would not recommend that you go to Frances Anne Johnston. She is dishonest and there must be some flaw in her technique if she has done similar things to people before. I am genuinely shocked that there are any good reviews on here (I am seriously in disbelief. The staff must have written them). I would not recommend her as a dentist. I am in serious pain and now facing the possibility of more complications due to faulty work as well as costs associated. Don't go to her.

During a procedure Dr. Johnston broke off a piece of my tooth and it wedged between my gum and tooth which required me to go to oral surgeon. This cost me several thousand dollars. Dr. Johnston refused to take any responsibility for her mistake and refused to pay for any of the cost. Definitely would not recommend this dentist.
