I appreciate the opportunity to respond to the reviews. It always gives you insight in to how your practice is being perceived. We do make it a point in my practice to provide conservative yet long lasting options in one's treatment, yet there are times when a conservative option is not available. I have learned over my 30 plus years that I am not doing my patients a favor by offering something that is a short term solution, UNLESS they are informed of the consequences and they make the decision to go another direction. There is good dentisry and cheap dentistry, but not cheap good dentistry. We have a reputation for finding ways to make good dentisry affordable.
I am so greatful to see families of patients, second and third generations. Hopefully they must be very comfortable in trusting their dental health to us.
Is this the type of office that appeals to you, we welcome you. If it is not, then it is important to find someone with whom you are comfortable.
Thank you for reading this clear to the end!

I'm absolutely positive that I would have gotten better service anywhere else, and I have since gotten better service. I was over charged, recommended treatment that I did not need. The dentist said I needed a root canal, and was going to charge me $2188 for all the work he needed to have done. I since went to another dentist who said I did not need the root canal, and paid $170 for 2 cavities that needed to be filled. I left Dr Thorups office feeling as if it was more about making a quick buck and less about doing what was right for my dental health!!!

They listened closely to everything I was telling them, and showed a lot of attention to detail. I've never had to worry about them forgetting something or not reading my information correctly, which I've encountered at other places. I will absolutely return. I had an amazing experience, and they were by far the best I've ever seen. They gave me all the information I needed about fees and payment plans before they scheduled my treatment. I appreciated them giving me enough information to consider my options before paying for it. he always makes me feel comfy and listens to all my concerns on my teeth,, he is great...

Dr. Thorup was my families' dentist for about 10 years. Before I went to Dr. Thorup I had NEVER had a cavitity. When I first started going he would say I had 1 or 2. Then he started saying every time that I had at least 3 or 4. He would also use the white fillings w/o asking me or my parents what I wanted even though they are far more expensive and break down more quickly. I never would've chosen them but he never told us there was a choice. As the years progressed the amount of work he said my family required became increasingly ridiculous. For example, he told my father he needed 3 route canals and he had no pain! Everyone in my family who saw him has had significant amounts of serious dental work done (yet the siblings who didn't see him have perfectly normal teeth). One time, my father said he couldn't afford to fix the "needed" 3 route canals/caps--Dr. Thorup said he would have to pay more later because he would be in horrible pain and have to have an emergency dental appt. That was 10 years ago and those teeth are still fine. When I was twenty I told him I needed one last appt before I was kicked off my insurance bc I was getting married. He said I had to get a route canal and cap on the spot--again I had no pain! He'd started numbing me w/o even asking me what I wanted to do. Feeling pressured as always I went ahead w/ it even though it didn't seem right. The last time I saw him I got a cap and mentioned I had pain on one of my back molars. He told me it was because I wasn't brushing enough and needed yet another route canal. I just didn't feel right about it this time so I got a second opinion. The next dentist told me I had brushed the enamal off me teeth and just needed a bond put on them--something he said no dentist should mistake for a route canal. In the eight years since switching I have had about 3 very small cavities--one relating to the decay of my fillings from Dr. Thorup--yet for the 8 years I saw Dr. Thorup I was told I had 2-5 cavities every checkup. I have also learned that he was supposed to be giving us flouride treatments up to the age of 18--he never gave one to me nor my siblings. Since that time my cavities have started to break down (as have my family's). He has cost us thousands upon thousands of dollars and worst of all he had permanantly damaged our teeth. As the fillings breakdown they will have to be drilled ever deaper until eventually the tooth is lost. I regret not realizing it sooner but my family was trusting. He talked often of going to church and he was very charming and friendly. But the fact that he always had to have the latest and greatest tools--the most expensive--should've tipped us off. And the fact that the more he complained about how much his divorce was costing him the more work he said we all needed. It just isn't right. Please, please do not go to this dentist--he is very charming but be wary. He has ruined my teeth and my family's teeth forever--he should lose his license. At the very least, please get a second opinion before you let him do anything to you!
