As other reviews point out, YES they do shoddy work just to get you to keep coming back! The ADA recommends SEALANTS be used routinely. After three visits and three requests seeing 4 of our family, no sealants used! Hygienist takes only 2 minutes to clean (and they boast about it saying they're the fastest in PA), however, we had to go to another dentist the same week because of 2 botched jobs and they said we needed cleaning, showing us where they missed. 1. Doesn't wash hands (I'm not getting hepatitis by going back) 2. Doesn't follow ADA recommendations 3. Money is more important--rush patients through with 2 minute cleaning and routine cleanings are done in 2 visits to maximize his payment (yes, routine cleaning in 2 visits, 5 min each total)! The focus of this office is purely business. Why seal the teeth when you can fill cavities for years to come and line your pockets? I wish I had my old dentist in MD. He'd seal, then say "no cavities for the next 5 years." Too bad Eckman wasn't so money focused; he should use his knowledge to help, rather than voiding the Hippocratic oath. By the way, hygienists do nearly all of the work. Eckman will drop bby, look into your mouth, then move to the next patient (same gloves, doesn't wash hands). THis is a place I will never return to. Botched crown still, he wants another $2500 because he didn't listen when I told him it wasn't in right (before he glued it in). Complete waste of thousands and he's against routine sealants despite ADA recommendations. Cleaning teeth in 120 seconds? Horrible experience with this purely money focused business.

When I moved to this area I had to find a new dentist because I had lost a filling, and I have been unhappy with the office ever since. So much of the care is done by assistants and not by the dentist himself. One day I went in with a loose crown and one of the assistants twisted the crown to remove it and actually BROKE the tooth underneath! All of this with no anesthetic. I was terrified and wanted to leave, but there they were with my crown in their hands and my tooth broken. It took several visits for them to get the tooth rebuilt and the crown seated properly. I decided that maybe this was just a single bad experience, so I went back for a few cleanings. Last spring I had a new crown put on. It did not fit right from the beginning and I told them so, but they assured me that it would "work itself out." I will NOT be going back to this office. The staff is nice enough and the dentist is nice enough, but I have no confidence in their work and am always afraid that they are going to hurt me again.

I have been going to Eckman for years because of a lack of other dentists in my area. Every single visit has been horrible. The staff seem overworked, tired, and unenthusiastic. They will stand there and chat to other staff members while working in your mouth. Often I could smell cigarettes on their hands which was very unpleasant. There are often a large amount of patients circulating in and out of the office and the most amount of time Eckman has spent with me was literally 2 minutes.

I have had a filling fall out FOUR times in a matter of six MONTHS. Once, the filling even came out the very next day (while I was brushing my teeth, ironically). Everytime I went back to have the filling replaced, I was NEVER given novacaine even though my nerve was completely exposed and very sensitive. Dr Eckman is focused on pushing through a large volume of patients in a small amount of time and thus, I was never given personalized attention or care. The filling was always replaced by staff members who seemed rushed. Fillings should NOT fall out .. especially not several times during a period of six months!

I switched dentists and my new dentist (Premier Dental) was floored when she discovered I had not received proper pain management while my fillings were being replaced at Eckman's office. She took X-rays and explained that the reason the fillings kept falling out was because the composite needs a fresh surface to bind to. The doctor herself gave me novacaine, let me choose the color of whiteness for my new filling, and put the filling in herself (instead of having a staff member do it). She was extremely gentle, spent time with me really assessing my needs, and actually took time to explain WHY my filling kept falling out and the pressures that are exerted from my jaw onto my tooth. I have now had my new filling for two months and it has not fallen out yet! I am very pleased with my new dentist.

In short, it makes me wonder if Eckman does shotty work like this on purpose so patient's will be forced to come back over and over to get the same procedure done. I have even heard of other patients of Eckmans who have had ROOT CANALS come out TWICE IN A YEAR! Root canals should NEVER come out! It had been such a bad experience so many times that I warned my family and friends in the area never to go to that practice.
