I have been a patient of Dr. Smirnova for at least 2 years. Most of my visits were for basic cleaning and teeth whitening. She is very pleasant and knowledgeable. The staff is very friendly and facilities are updated and clean.
However, my experience today with dental hygienist Lorell is the reason for this review. Prior to the cleaning, I informed her that I was experiencing sensitivity and bleeding in my teeth/gums. The cleaning started okay until she cleaned my lower teeth. I was wincing or grunting whenever she hits a sensitive spot. It was a natural reaction that I could not control. I was doing my best to ignore the sensitivity and to relax my lips and mouth. After a few more minutes of wincing, she stopped and reprimanded me with a lengthy, impassioned speech, thanks to her loud voice and obvious annoyance. She said she can’t perform her work properly. She said in her 20 years of experience, she has never encountered this much difficulty and she will need a massage after she finishes with me. She said she has other patients waiting for her and she needs to put me under local anesthesia in order to finish do her job. Naturally, I refused the local anesthesia. And because she has sharp objects and tools at her fingertips, I had to grin and bear the sensitivity and bleeding for the procedure to finish.
Having your teeth cleaned is not always the easiest task for both the hygienist and the patient. However, there is always the professional, polite, acceptable way of communicating with your patient to get your message across. Scolding, embarrassing and threatening patients is NEVER the right way. Adding unnecessary personal comments and saying that she has other things to do does not make a patient feel relaxed or less tense. I should have left right after she embarrassed me.
After the procedure, Lorell spoke with Dr. Smirnova and I’m not sure what exactly she told her. But Dr. Smirnova came over to speak with me. She had no clear diagnosis for my teeth sensitivity and bleeding, no requests for tests or xrays and simply recommended that a try a specific gel. She hinted at the fact that I may or may not come back to her office for my next cleaning. That thought did not even cross my mind until Dr. Smirnova suggested it. And as the owner of the practice, that was the bigger insult in the whole experience. She did not personally ask me how my experience was today and only relied on whatever Lorell told her. There was no apology or any form of sympathy from either of them for my discomfort. I understand that I may only be one, unimportant patient in your multitude of clients in a small town. But you only need one disgruntled patient to reflect how you conduct your business.

Dr. Lana Smirnova and her staff provided best service for her patients.
Using her service since 2003 and always pleased by her professionalism, deep understanding of patient's needs, attention to details. Her staff created a very pleasant atmosphere in the office and it is always a pleasure to visit this doctor. Highly recommended doctor; you will be NOT disappointed and always pleased .

I came to Dr. Smirnova when she first opened her practice in Flemington about fifteen years ago with a mouthful of problems. I had been receiving regualr dental care most of my life, but my family has a history of losing teeth at an early age. I was on a path to follow in their footsetps until I started going to Dr. Smirnova. She is by far and away the best dentist I've ever been to. I'm about to turn 60 and no one in my family has any teeth at all at this age. But thatnks to Dr. Smirnonva except for my wisdom teeth I haven't lost a single tooth! Sure, some of them are capped, but her cosmetic skills are so good that even I can't tell which ones they are.

Absolutely, I was able to rinse every few minutes
