There was a communication issue at this office. We specifically requested an interpreter for the first appointment. Unfortunately, upon arrival to the appointment no interpreter was provided. The secretary then advised me that my 4-year-old and 7-year-old were being too noisy for that office. She advised us that we could no longer wait inside the office. My husband then came out and didn't understand any information he was given. I then went back in and spoke directly with Dr. Brown. We discussed that from previously helping other people with medical interpretation, that it must be provided upon request. If that was an issue, she could contact me via phone due to my children being too noisy for the office. Dr. Brown advised me that if this was an issue in the future that she would " refuse to treat patients that needed an interpreter." Dr. Brown was advised that per section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act and under the American's with Disabilities Act an interpreter needed to be provided. However, we came to agreement that she would just call me if an interpreter wouldn't be provided. At the next appointment, this was an issue after we had verbally agreed to this. ( I was never contacted). My question is how are you charging patients $59.00 for oral hygiene instructions at every appointment if they don't understand? What is done when a patient has a question and no means of communication? There are several other things and exchanges that happened between this office. If a patient doesn't speak/understand English, I wouldn't recommend this office.
