My visit was for an evaluation, therefore most of the questions were his. My appointment was pointless because after an hour, prodding me to reveal very personal, painful details, he asked me what he could do for me. What!? We spoke over the phone a week or less earlier and set up an appointment so that he could tell me what help I needed. Then he told me he couldn't do anything for me. In fact, he serenely agreed when I said my fate was to suffer. I felt like I was on some cruel episode of Candid Camera and had a pie thrown in my face. He told me that the bill would come in the mail and today it did; $425. Nothing was accomplished and I felt worse when I left. The office was easy enough to find, but it's never easy finding a good psychiatrist.

I had seen Frank Moscarillo many years ago and had ECT in two separate years. Dr. Moscarillo's bedside manner is deplorable. His is arrogant and rude. Had I had a choice, I would not have gone back to him the second time. The "backup" doctor is a reasonable and kind gentleman for this treatment. I would have preferred to have worked with him the second time around, however, my primary therapist said "this is not done." Twenty years later, still living with several depression and bi-polar disease, I considered having ECT treatments, once again. A psychopharmachologist told me that Dr. Moscarillo had advised him that ECT was much improved, e.g., no long term memory loss, out-patient rather than in-patient procedure, and even recommended a book written by a well-known person lauding the ECT "cure." As a result, I met with Moscarillo at that time. He was as insensive, arrogant and rude as ever, if not more so. His comments regarding the fact that I had never been married were insulting, as were much of his comments regarding myself and my family.

The book was a joke as The book was titled something like, "How ECT Saved My Life" In fact, it didn't. The subject of the book (the person with depression) has many servants to help her cope with life and she secludes herself in her bedroom during the worst bouts of depression so no one really knows how depressed she is or how often. She claims to have treatments right before she has to appear in public. Do not believe this.

However, I would not rule out ECT for everyone, especially for patients whose alternative is being extensively drugged with psychiatric medications just to function. But buyers beware. It is not a simple and magical prodecure. There are long term effects, such as memory loss. You must be prepared to take 3 months off from work.

When I initally had ECT, I was young, confused and my depression prevented me from working or taking care of myself. I still regret my memory loss, but ECT did jar me out of my debilitaing depression, at least for awhile. However, I would NEVER recommend Frank Moscarillo to anyone. There ARE better doctors out there.

The only reason I was able to find their office was because I had very simple, clear directions that I printed out. There's no way I would have found it without them. One thing I really appreciated about them, was that they didn’t rush my appointment at all. I was able to talk about everything I needed to, without worrying about being interrupted or cut off. Their entire office was immaculate. It was obvious that they took very good care of it. They were by far one of the best I've ever seen in their field. It was obvious that they've been exceeding their clients' expectations for many years.
