Dr. Guarda is a world-renowned eating disorders expert. But she also is the most genuinely dedicated and caring doctor I have ever known. She saved my life. I suffered from anorexia, for the past 25 years. I had no hope for recovery. After several recent seizures, I resigned myself to dying.
Dr. Guarda is the Director of the Johns Hopkins Eating Disorders Program. US News and World Report ranks Hopkins as the #1 hospital in the country for psychiatry.
Dr. Guarda’s program saved my life. Her comprehensive program meets the psychiatric and the physical needs of the patient. The staff are genuinely caring and compassionate. I highly recommend this doctor.

Dr. Guarda is not the warm and fuzzy type on the unit. And really, because of the nature of her job, she can't be. Eating disorder patients are extremely tough to deal with (I can say this as I have been one) and often need firm guidelines and rules in order to get well.

But confusing "toughness" with lack of compassion would be completely wrong. Dr. Guarda is by far one of the best clinicians I have ever encountered, in any field of medicine. I first met her as a patient on her unit back in 2004 and have stayed in touch with her all these years later. She is genuinely happy with how far I've come, which is the sign of a very caring doctor.

I would recommend Dr. Guarda to anyone struggling with an eating disorder. She is at the top of her field and I deeply respect her devotion to her patients and the work that she does.

During my encounters with Dr, Angela Guarda, I never once felt listened to or understood. She did not seem to care about anything I had to say, and as a result I was misdiagnosed. I would never recommend her to anyone. The experience was terrible, but I am a stronger person for survivng her treatment. Every time I had a concern, the staff treated me like I was worthless and my opinions did not matter, when I was just trying to get help for my problems. It was as though I was less of a person than Dr. Guarda or her staff. Only 2 of the nursing staff and Dr. Rachel Morano (and her student) treated me with the respect (thank you) that every patient deserves.
