Was my dentist for years. Really, I followed him from pace to place like some kind of dental stalker. He is a very calming presence; explains what he is about t do, explains it again while he's doing it, and then explains it again after he's done. The best.

If you don't mind being treated like an inanimate object as a patient, then Dr. Roshkind would be a fine choice for a dentist. He is very meticulous and does excellent dental work and for that reason only, I have not changed dentists. However, in the 4 visits that I had with him for a root canal and crown, he hasn't said more than 5 words to me (other than "open", "bite down", "don't move", etc.). It was like he was working on a machine that needed to be fixed instead of a real person. He barely said hello each time he came into the room and never asked how I was.

On my last visit, he didn't even take the time to go over my overall treatment plan with me and not once asked if I had any questions about anything. Instead, after he was finished working on me, he just took my file, left the room without a word good-bye, and just sent me to the front desk for the clerk to go over it with me. It seemed almost like talking to patients is irritating to him...but then again, maybe it was just with me.

In contrast, his staff members are very pleasant and personable individuals who almost make up for his lack of ability (or willingness) to even pretend he cares about the patient's feelings. It could be that he's a really nice guy and that what I see as his patient is simply all business, but I'm of the opinion that ALL health professionals have a duty to at least acknowledge all dimensions of their patients' health including their emotional state of mind at the time of visit. You don't have to be a psychiatrist, just human, to know that how someone feels about the treatment you render to them is a key factor in a good doctor-patient relationship.
