Our experience with Dr Protomastro was dissapointing at best, dangerous at worst. While the surgery he performed on the bones (broken and displaced Tibia and Fibuila) was excellent, his bedside manner and addressing areas of concern outside of the bones was horrific. My wife is diabetic which largely complicated the healing process for her bones and wound associated with the surgery. When we brought this aspect up post surgery, the response was "it's just pain, you have to deal with it" and not to be concerned with her wound in relation to diabetes. When we expressed concern about the wound's healing in relation to her diabetes, it was responded with no concern at all. We finally left his practice when during a visit my wife was experiencing tremendous pain, and he insisted on putting on a boot and sending her home, even after asking whether we should be concerned with her wound as it seemed not to be healing properly. He said no, and sent her home. She called the office an hour later asking to revisit the boot and the pain- his response was that he had spent 45 minutes with her that morning, there was nothing he could do, she needed to deal with it and she should not call again- he would see her in 4 weeks. We immediately found another Doctor who we saw the next day. When this doctor saw her wound he immediately sent her to the wound care treatment center as a result of a serious infection that she had, where she was treated for the next 4 weeks. Leaving the wound uncared for, per Dr Protomastro reccomended, would have been detrimental to her health. While Dr Protomastro's surgery skills are excellent, his bedside manner, empathy, and people skills are extremely poor. His disregard for patient's feelings are surprising and dissapointing.
