Dr Z was my son, Mark Niewald's pediatrician when he was born at Providance Hospital in 1961. Mark was a twin. The babies were premature. The other son died but remarkedly, Mark who weighed 1lb 14 oz survived. He survived because of the dedication of Dr Zartman and the nurses on staff. Mark was born with arthrogryposis. He grew up and became a nurse. Sorry it took so long to say thank you.
Dr Zartman is a model Pediatrician. He changed our family's lives with his wisdom. Our first son was born blind. We were terrified and the multitude of doctors the child saw in his first decade of life could staff a hospital. N0 one had any faith in the child's abilities to lead a normal life including me, his mother. I'll always remember Dr Zartman telling me when Dan was 5 months old: There's nothing wrong with him. He just can't see. And we raised him on those words. Sadly, our son died 25 years later. But not before he completed a year of law school. Thank you Dr. Zartman for teaching us to believe in him. This is a rare Dr.
