Wonderful Dermatologist & Staff. They have taken care of me for decades.
Hard to say enough nice things about all the wonderful people at Dr. Slagel's office. Most professional and proficient!

Do not go to Dr Slagel's office in Fayetteville. We had been loyal customers/patients for years and my husband had an appointment today. He is currently handicap and uses a scooter and in a cast. He was 2 min past their 15 min window and no one was in their office. They would not let him be seen. It is very hard for him to get all the way there and drive all that way. This is very disappointing and sad. We have had other customer service related issues, but this was the one that caused us to finally say, "It is time to go somewhere else."

Hello Dr. Slagel,

To start with I will first say I have NO PROBLEMS with you personally because we haven’t met. I was referred to you with high regards by a fellow employee.

I called your office (101 Yorktown Dr.) about a month ago cause I had an itching rash that I had been trying to treat for a couple of months thru my primary physician. To no avail in curing the problem.
Your office set an appointment for October 22nd. I had asked if anyone cancelled I would like to get in to see you earlier because I was at all I could stand with this itching. Never got a call on a cancellation and that was ok.
My wife had gotten a cream that cleared up the itch, but seeing that I already had an appointment set I wanted to see you anyhow due to I just turned 59 years old and have been experiencing some dark spots, ruff areas and skin flaps.. etc. just general health concerns.

This is where the disgruntle part comes in. I have allowed a day to cool down and collect my thoughts. Like I said I have no problem with you but, I felt you would want to know how your office staff treated and left me feeling yesterday morning.

I arrived a little early to fill out paperwork. When I stepped to the counter one of your employees asked for my insurance card and a photo I.D. (standard procedure) and I called myself joking with her by saying “It’s all about the money” and she nodded her head and said yes… And I said “NO no no.. wrong answer.. You should have said it’s All about the Patient” and she acknowledged and ask forgiveness and said it was early. I thought OK.. joke is over.. She handed me some paperwork to fill out front and back… I took it and sat down to fill it out. When finished I brought it back to her and she was holding my credentials in one hand and took the paperwork with the other and said to me that I needed to pay my co-pay. I asked her how much that would be. She looked it up and said $35.00. I tried joking again “It really is about the Money” to see if she would answer differently. But she smiled at me and nodded her head. She ask me to have a seat that someone would call me back in a few minutes.

Within a couple of minutes another lady called my name and ask me to come on back. We swapped pleasantries as she showed me to my room. She told me she had a patient in front of me and she would be back with me shortly. She came back in my room in about two or three minutes. I am thinking to myself,, How prompt the service is here.

She put a blood pressure cuff on my arm to check BP. She picked up her clip board and asked me about my rash and skin flaps. I told her that it was a month ago when I called for the appointment and since then the rash had cleared up but I had a few other spots that I would like the doctor to look at. I said that the skin flaps I felt were no big deal because I have seen commercials where you can get something over the counter that clears the flaps.

When she told me that they would have to schedule an appointment for me to come in and remove my shirt and pants so you can give the once over. And then she asked me which of the few other spots I would like for you to look at first.. This is when I lost it.. It made me really angry.. I told her HELL NO.. I am out of here.. and I took the BP Cuff off my arm and tossed it back on the counter.. She said “ARE YOU SERIOUS” and I responded “AS A HEART ATTACK” and I told her I couldn’t believe that they would get me in there and extract $35 and then tell me they would have to schedule another appointment (ANOTHER $35.00) for you to take a look at “WHICH SPOTS I SAID I THOUGHT YOU SHOULD LOOK AT FIRST”….. To me Dr. Slagel I feel You should be the one saying what spots may need attention FIRST.. That’s when I left the room and walked back to the desk and demanded my money back. And told them that I wasn’t playing that!!!! They asked me what seems to be the problem and I gladly told them because I wanted ALL the people in the waiting room to hear how I had been treated. One of the girls got my $35 dollars and gave it back to me.

It wasn’t about the money Dr. Slagel.. it was I felt like I had already waited a month to see you.. and then was told I would have to schedule an appointment for you to look at my skin.. and also she wanted me to be the one to say what you should look at first.. which I assumed I would have to schedule even more appointments to have you look at if there are more than one spot.

In case someone reads these emails before you get the opportunity and decides they won’t let you see or hear about this, I will be sending a hard copy with my fellow workers wife the next appointment she comes to see you.

I figured you needed to know. If I was in your position I know I would want to be informed. Please reply to let me know you have read and understand this correspondence.

Have seen Dr Slagel in the past and had a great experience. The issue is with the staff which manages the scheduling. On three occasions, appointment time was changed without notifying and receiving patient confirmation. So showing up on appointment date/time just to leave without seeing the doctor. Very inconsiderate and disorganized office. Unfortunate, good doctor, bad scheduling office.
