I never have to worry about them overbooking appointments. She's caring and practical yet laid-back and patient.

I would advise any prospective patient to be very careful to be sure that Joanne's personality matches what yours for labor and delivery. I found her to be very verbally abrupt, borderline rude, and physically rough with me in Labor, and sometimes in office appointments too. I felt that she did not take the time to explain things to me or to listen to me; she often cut me off mid sentence or jumped to conclusions about what I might be about to say. She was generally dismissive of my input. I feel that this combination of personality mismatch is why I ended up opting for an epidural in labor; I felt that I could not manage being in labor as well as fighting with Joanne at the same time.
That said, I did receive adequate medical care, so on that level I have no complaints. Also, I have no complaints about Jeanette O'Sullivan; in fact I wish she had been on call that day!
Over all I am very glad to have my healthy baby, but was more than disappointed in the experiences I had with Joanne.

We used Nurse Midwifery Associates of Brooklyn for our first baby, born in October 2008. The practice is headed by two exceptional nurse midwives - Joanne Middleton and Janette O'Sullivan - with the help of Sylvia and Rebekah who work in the office. To say we were satisfied with our experience is an understatement. With every visit my husband and I were encouraged, as a team, to ask as many questions as possible. We never felt rushed and were always provided with amazing care and helpful information. Janette delivered the baby after 36 hours of labor. Her patience was incredible and the experience was intimate...we had the baby in the hospital but it almost felt like a home birth. Janette was warm, relaxed and was smiling most of the time...she must have been exhausted but never showed it. She really respected our choices and was present and encouraging, every step of the way. We are still in contact with her and she treats us as if we are family. I highly recommend this group. Both Joanne and Janet are highly respected professionals with terrific personalities and a great sense of humor!
