This is long winded but if you plan on going to this office please read this review. I am a career law enforcement officer who went to see Dr. Schaberg with a serious injury I incurred while doing the bench press exercise. When doing the exercise i heard and felt a noticeable ripping feeling across my chest and upper arm. My chest and arm were very swollen and bruising had occurred from my chest to my wrist in the few days it took me to get into see Schaberg.

When I went in I told him what happened and told him I was scared that I tore my pectoral. He ordered an MRI which he read as it only being a small tear of the shoulder muscle. Schaberg said it will heal on its one and ordered 8 weeks of PT. I told him I thought for sure I tore the pec and was relieved it was something that would heal on its own despite how terrible the injury looked.

During PT the swelling and bruising went away but the functionality on certain movements was very painful or not possible. I asked on a follow up visit to Schaberg if this was normal as it felt something was still wrong. He dismissed my concerns and told me to continue with PT.

When I was cleared from PT after 8 expensive weeks I tried to do some push-ups. I got to number 8 and my whole chest/shoulder area collapsed in pain. I called Schaberg and said I called Schaberg's office and said I needed to see someone right away. Schaberg was unavailable but his partner Dr. Melander was in and would see me.

Upon physical examination he immediately suspected a pectoral tear and ordered more MRI's and confessed that the first MRI that was ordered by Schaberg was only of the shoulder and showed nothing of the pectoral and where it connects. The new MRI confirmed a pectoral tear.

At this point after all the PT and no one listening to me I went to see another doctor who specializes in shoulder/chest injuries. Plus the difficult thing on pec tears is that if they are going to be fixed they need to be fixed fast in order greatly increase success and because Schaberg completely misdiagnosed me getting this fixed was not looking good. It was at this point that this new surgeon said he could repair the pec and the tendons which ripped completely from the none. On the same day I had an appointment with Melander who said there was nothing that could be done about and I would have to live with this.

As a law enforcement officer I would have likely been medically retired if I let it go so I went with the other office and surgery. It's been over a year now and the pectoral was completely repaired although the surgeon said if I wanted much longer we would have never found the tendons and been able to reattach them. The pectoral is doing great and I am able to lift weights, dips, sports and most importantly work with no issues.

So to wrap up this sad tail I would not recommend seeing Schaberg for anything. This is not an attempt to be rude but in my opinion he is old, outdated, uninformed, and would not listen to my concerns. He completely misdiagnosed a problem that almost cost me my career. His partner Melander is only slightly better in that at least he got the injury diagnosed correctly but then told me there was nothing that could be done to fix it and to live with the disability making him completely wrong, uninformed and again almost cost me my career. Melander is supposed to be a "sports doctor" as well, which is very surprising that he would not know the options for fixing a pec tear which is becoming more and more common among active people.

So please, please, please if you have something more then an ankle sprain avoid this office as they dont have the experience or knowledge to handle something complex.

They didn't tell me anything about my treatment options. I left feeling very confused and frustrated. They definitely pressured me to buy products. I felt like they were just trying to make money off me. There was no annoying music playing while I waited or during my visit. I appreciated that they didn't have that typical elevator music on. Whenever I called with a question or concern, the staff made me feel stupid for calling. I avoided calling because I didn't want to feel stupid. I wish they gave me good advice, but most of the time they only give me advice that would benefit them. I went to visit Dr. Schaberg bc I had surgery on my arm years ago and it has been very irritating for months. Dr. Schaberg spent approx 4 minutes with me after i waited about an hour. he took an xray that i didnt know would be as expensive as it was, they did not mention that. His 'medical conclusion' was that i need to stop lifting weights. I told him that I did that for 2 months, and then he left. I personally think I need surgery again, but he found that proposturous. Later I called to ask about my bill and the lady told me it was my fault for not asking. There are numerous wonerful doctors in the area, choose another.

They always go above and beyond to help me with anything I need. Jim gets right to the issue, and gives no-nonsense answers. They never complain about anything, and I know I can always count on them. They're always able to answer simple questions over the phone. They only make me schedule appointments if necessary. When comparing them to others I have visited for the same condition, they are among the best I have seen.
