Wish I could rate lower. Dr Sheikh was rude and spoke down to you like if he was better than you. Cut me off when I would speak. Would not listen to me or what my PCP told me from the mri report. Made comments as if my doctor made everything up. Cut me off to say, “ I don’t listen to other doctors, I get paid to cut!” Clearly he’s in it for the money! Made inappropriate comments about my other medical conditions. Which had nothing to do with my knee. To personal to go into details. But made me feel like I was nothing! Made me feel like I was crazy and was making my pain up! I had to hold back tears until I returned to my car. Thank God my husband was there with me. We couldn’t believe the things that were coming out of his mouth! One of my medical conditions causes me to forget things especially when my anxiety is high. Because I was in shock of the comments he was making I blanked out when he asked me who was my rheumatologist? I don’t him I couldn’t remember but I have it in my phone if he would like his name? He then stated, “ you can’t remember your doctors name but I bet if I asked you what your nail technicians name is you would remember!” I replied, actually no because I paint my own nails. I can’t paint my feet because I can’t bend over due to my medical conditions. I don’t understand why he asked me for the doctors name l because when I offered it he didn’t want it. Later when I requested the report he stated I didn’t know my doctors name. I couldn’t believe how unprofessional he was. He didn’t even make any recommendations for treatment. I had to suggest different treatments and he kept saying no! I’m the report he stated he recommended the treatments I was asking him about which he originally told me no! He stormed out of the room without saying all set or I will see u back. Meanwhile, the nurse is standing in the room listening to everything. She had to tell me your all set when he stormed out the room. I’m very upset that he twisted the medical report. He never mentioned anything about knee replacement in the future! Only stated that in the report. Went to see another doctor and told me actually what was going on and what to do. Stay Away from this doctor!!! I can’t believe is he still a doctor! I looked at the reviews after and wish I had read them before going to see him! He has zero compassion for patients! He needs to be removed! I will be filling a complaint! Stay Away From This Doctor! Also, my appointment was for 3pm and didn’t see him until 5pm. Only to see him for 10-15 minutes to be yelled at. Because he was speaking very loudly. I won’t go into detail of how rude the front desk people were as well. Completely unprofessional! I encourage all who have had a bad experience to report him! Never in my life have I ever had such a bad experience with any doctor and I’ve seen lots & lots of doctors for all my medical conditions. I’ve never been treated so poorly! I’m very upset and hurt by how I was treated. I still have anxiety since I’ve seen him 3 weeks ago. I honestly feel traumatized by the way he treated me if I see any new doctors in the future for any reason. I get extremely anxious just thinking about if I will ever have experience this again! It’s not worth the mental abuse and is not healthy to have to experience any of this behavior.

The following is a copy of a formal complaint regarding Dr. Sheihk anbd the Pembroke Pines office:
Dear Debra Bialodeau, CEO; and Roland Nadeau, Director of Business Development

This is a formal complaint against your support staff. Today, I had an appointment with Dr. Babak Shekh at 9:40 AM. I was told when I made the appointment it would be the first upon opening the office. Upon arrival, I informed the receptionist of that, and was told "they lied." I waited an hour and finally obtained my driver's license back. I asked approximately when I would be seen, and was told there were two others before me. I asked on that basis if I could return to see the doctor in an hour at 11:40 to run some errands. She agreed. When I returned, another lady said she had no idea when I would be seen. I asked again approximately. She said some X-rays were needed and one other was before me for that purpose. I again asked precisely when I would get to see the doctor and was told she cannot tell. I asked for return of the medical reports I gave upon arrival, and was told they were returned upon leaving. I told them they could have said upon arrival, "The doctor is running late. Do you mind returning in about an hour or so", and gave me the prerogative of remaining indefinitely or not. I demanded the reports and admonished them for unprofessional behavior.

Ms. Bialodeau and Mr. Nadeau, I do not want an apology. I will never return to Total Orthopedic Care and your company probably lost about $400 in diagnostic tests and medical doctor fees in my case. You can attribute that loss to the support staff who receive new patients in the Pembroke Pines Office. In addition, I shall register the foregoing complaint with the medical rating agencies on the internet in the hopes that no one will have to endure the same nonsense I experienced from your front office staff today.

Have A Nice Day,

N. Mancini

After waiting over 45 minutes for my appointment, which is typical at this office, Dr. Sheikh entered the room asking how I was doing. I feel it is important to mention that he did not make eye contact or even look at me until after I responded by saying, “To be honest, a little annoyed.” He then spun around and embarked on a tirade in which he said that “teachers are the biggest complainers and whiners” that he has ever seen “in this country.” He then said that he doesn’t blame me for all of the kids failing in Broward County Schools and repeated what “complainers and whiners” teachers are “in this country.” He was waving his arms as he spoke and went on to say that I am no better than anyone else, that I am not special, and that “there are other people with broken arms and broken legs that need to be seen.” He said that every orthopedic practice runs this way and that it is the way it is; I could walk into any other of the thousands of practices and this is the way that it is. He said that if I didn’t want to wait, then I should come at 7:30am. He then mentioned that he had trained with Dr. Oz and then began a rhetorical question about Dr. Oz and diaper rash and heart issues, but at this point he was no longer making sense and I’m not sure what point he was attempting to make. He was not completing sentences and was repeating the insults about teachers “in this country.” He asked me twice during this tirade if I wanted to continue discussing this “childish topic” and waste his valuable time or if I wanted to talk about my injury. When I attempted to answer his question, he became more incensed and belligerent. At one point he walked back to my chart on the counter and angrily said, “Maybe you should go see someone else.” I calmly responded, “I think I will see someone else.” He responded with a harsh, “Good” and I then proceeded to leave the examination room and walked straight out of the office.

I am flabbergasted by my experience with Dr. Sheikh today and I can only imagine what his reception staff said to him about me that would set him off in such a way. I never asked or even insinuated that I wanted to be seen ahead of other patients or that my time was more valuable than anyone else’s time. However, I do want to say that my time is valuable. I arrive promptly for my appointments and feel that doctors should do the same. This is especially the case after receiving a voicemail message on my home and cell phones in addition to two text messages from Dr. Sheikh’s office to ensure that I keep my appointment. Although I have come to expect doctor’s offices to run a bit behind schedule, making patients routinely wait more than 45 minutes for a scheduled appointment is really an abuse, mismanagement, and a lack of respect for the patient. At the very least, patients deserve to know how much longer they are going to have to wait to see the doctor so that they can make arrangements accordingly.

Regardless of what was said to Dr. Sheikh by his staff about me, his behavior today was deplorable, inexcusable, and to be quite honest, frightening.

After waiting an hour and a half past my appointment time, I was finally brought to the back for x-rays (the x-ray tech was very nice and courteous). Dr. Sheikh immediately began to fat-shame me and basically told me that I should learn to deal with my pain. When I told him that my hip pain was at it's worst when I was at my skinniest, he seemed to get mad and launched into a tirade about how we don't know why things happen, including the recent mass-shooting at UCSB. It was crazy that he brought that up. I told him that I recently graduated from law school but that I'm unable to sit for the bar exam because of the back and hip pain I experience when I sit. He told me that I'm not taking the bar because I "really just don't want to" and that "dwarfs are able to get through medical school" so I should suck it up. After reading that I take Percocet 5/325 for pain, he told me that I'm addicted and that anyone that takes this med for longer than 3 weeks is an addict. He said my real problem is the drugs and not pain. I told him that I had an appointment with a pain management doctor the next day, but he acted as if I was trying to get a prescription out of him, which I was not. It was all very insulting. He was condescending, rude, and rushed the entire appointment. Horrible bedside manner. I've never been spoken to like this from a so-called professional before. My husband was in the room for the appointment and was shocked that he would say such crazy things to a patient. He is heartless and should re-think being in a profession that requires compassion. He clearly has a superiority complex. I've never written a doctor review before, but I felt obligated to warn people after this terrible experience. Needless to say, my appointment the very next day with a pain management doctor was completely different - Thank god! She was kind and compassionate. I really wish I had never gone to him.
