I was not informed of the probable consequences of my cataract surgery. Where I could see before, now I cannot see. I was told AFTER the surgery that I would not be able to focus on intermediate and close up objects. The cataract surgery has altered my life drastically for the worse. My only fault here was in trusting the doctor and his assistant Misty that they would do me no harm. In retrospect, I now know that they were most interested in making money, regardless of whether or not the procedure they recommended was going to better my life. I have since purchased and eventually rejected two pairs of tri-focals ($1300) and countless pairs of "cheater readers," including a pair that shines lights directly where I am looking. So far this latter option has enabled my sight the most. Since my cataract surgery I can no longer drive at night. I cannot see clear outlines of anything unless there is a good contrast with background. I cannot see in either bright sunlight or darkness. The only reading I can now do is with an e-reader that is specially backlit and where I can increase the size of the font. On my job I have to get my face right up to the computer screen to see the contents. I have to get a lighted magnifier out to view the telephone book or any other book with small print. With respect to personal grooming there are MANY things that present challenges such as foot care, eye makeup, any kind of tweezing or clipping, determining color of clothing, etc. I have trouble administering medications. I cannot sew at all, or perform any tasks which requires close inspection. I have difficulty cooking if a recipe must be followed. I could go on. But suffice to say that Dr. Joy was only interested in the income derived from my procedure. He had no concern for my well-being. My experience with him has forever changed my respect and trust for doctors! I was 58 years old when my less-than-perfect eyesight became terrible eyesight thanks to Dr. Gregory Joy.
