For many months my husband has been seeing Douglas Ritchie, Seal beach and Los Alamitos Podiatry about foot ulcers. For the last 8 weeks, (that I am absolutely sure of) I have asked each visit about smell and visual symptoms of infection. Each time I have been told there is no infection and the smell is just "feet" smell. Intellectually, I did doubt this, and should have doubted it more. The "doctor" was POSITIVE there was no infection and NEVER even ordered a culture from the gaping wounds, xray..nothing. I finally took him to wound care. Two nurses and the doctor diagnosed infection by the smell alone. Jerry has an advanced bone infection and may lose each big toe. Amputation was the doctor's immediate suggestion. We are going to try and save them, but it does not look good. That will leave one foot with only the 2 small toes. Why are doctors such F@#$%^&*()ing lazy, apathetic a**holes? The worse part is, he already lost his breastbone and delayed cancer treatment because of the EXACT same behavior from 2 other doctors.

What can I say? I went to Dr. Richie for a 'second opinion' since my previous DPM made two orthotics to address the pain I had from hiking and backpacking trips. I was scheduled for a High Sierra Trail trip this fall where I'd be doing 72 miles over the course of four days and wanted to address the continued issues I had with pain to where I was always the last one done on long day hikes due to pain. I tried different shoes, etc. In short, it's been a work in progress (blisters, toe bang, and super pain in my feet). From the start of the appointment (they took X-rays of my feet) to reviewing my gate (you're right leg is smaller it appears) to measuring my leg length it was apparent that my results were going to be different. Normally with my previous DPM using the same lab (KLM?) it was a two week turn to get my orthotics. This time it was FOUR days later. Talk about service! I couldn't WAIT to try them- I did this last weekend by doing a hike up to Timber Mtn which wasn't too remarkable (some pain in the left arch due to not acclimating prior) but once on the top we started down the nearly 5 miles to the parking lot- I was so comfortable that I made it down in an hour and a half. Talk about making time- anyone that's been on ice house canyon knows it's got some grade to it- but none the less I was in great shape after that 10 mile hike. While there are other DPM 's that focus on sports medicine Dr. Richie reviewed my orthotics against my arch and he showed me that that they didn't fit my arch and explained why I was in pain. The proof is in the pudding as they say and my feet are pain free. Thanks to Dr. Richie!!!!

We had inquired about insurance coverage first. They said it was a $35.00 copay. I had traveled total of 3 1/2+ hours to see Dr. Richie. After filling out paperwork, waiting in the waiting room and waiting extensively in the patient's office, I am seen by an apprentice who consults with the doctor in the hallway. I told them I came to see DR. RICHIE. When the doctor came in, he talked about his life, and asked plenty of non-related questions. X-rays were taken and again the apprentice walks in and wraps my feet. They did not help me with finding therapy. If you don't care about who will see you and don't care about after visit care then go here. They billed 56.58 more than they had told us when we asked. I advise against this practice.
