I was contacted by my doctor for a followup visit, and told them that my insurance had changed and I was now on medicaid pending my medicare to come through. I was told on the phone that they didnt take medicaid but I could still pay cash and get a reduced rate as a current patient. That was acceptable to me as I didnt want to change doctors, I just started treatment for serious health conditions and wanted to complete it with them.
Upon arrival i made the mistake of mentioning that i had medicaid, but didnt plan on using it with them (since they didnt take it) For the next 30 mins i waited in the lounge, and listened as the office staff debated whether they would allow me to visit since i had medicaid. (Even tho I wasnt going to use it, apparently just having it disqualified me.. like i was going to go file a claim or something.. how do you even do that as a non-doctor?)
After 30 mins I am called over and my money refunded. I am told that i have "Multiple violations" and have been a bad patient, and the doctors refuse to see me. Now remember.. the last 30 mins I have listened to them debate whether or not to allow me to visit because of medicaid.. instead of being honest, they accause me in front of other patients of not following up and being a bad patient.
I asked to see the doctor and discuss it with him (since they are hte ones supposedly making this decision.) But "he's not in" which is untrue, I just saw him a minute ago. To which the manager gets red faced and said well he cant see you right now, you have multiple infractions yada yada.
I explained that i had medications that needed to be refilled, i had just over 24 hours left (as they recommend) and what should I do?
"Thats not my problem, i guess you need to find a doctor that takes medicaid" Are you kidding me? Well I guess I'm not such a bad patient, I'm just dirt because I have medcaid.. despite the fact I was willing to pay for services out of pocket.
The result of this will be a trip to the emergency room.
This is a doctors office that is more concerned with money then your health. Avoid this doctors office unless you want to be abandoned and end up having to goto emergency room. I will have real insurance again very shortly (the medicaid was stopgab coverage).. but I can gauruntee it will not be used with this office.
With my ongoing chronic health problems, I've seen a whole lot of doctors over the years, usually just the ones who will take my insurance.
Forget Sosa -- good doc, but he schedules his appointments 10 minutes apart and is often not even there for two hours in the morning while he's at the hospital seeing patients there. And then when you get him, he talks really fast, shows not personal interest, and is hard to understand. I walked out after waiting two hours the last two times I was there and then switched to Kobobel.
Also, I try to avoid the doctors whose names I can't pronounce, and who say things like "You beddy beddy seek." If you know what I mean.
Dr. Kobobel has a funny name, but he's a really good doctor and a really good guy personally. I always dread going to see the doctor, but he always makes it a low-stress, friendly experience and I leave glad I went to see him. And I always get in very close to my appointment time. He takes walk-ins as well, but I don't know how long you have to wait for that. I can't recommend him highly enough. And Dr. Kay, who is also in that office, has been very good as well (I went with my wife when she saw him a few months ago).
I hesitate to even leave this review because maybe he'll get so busy I can't get in to see him as easily as I do.
