I went to Dr. Matzer for a physical, as she is listed with United Health
Care as a primary care physician. I stated the desire to have a physical and to use her as my primary care physician when I made the appointment. When I got there, I was ignored and not greeted and treated very rudely by the 2 young women staffing the front desk. Dr. Matzer herself was quite rude, and said it was "not her fault" that I had gotten the wrong information, never even apologized for my trouble, and seemed not to care at all. I have a cardiac history, and I would never go to Dr. Matzer. Unless you like being treated poorly, stay away.

Dr Matzer has a very good "bed side" manner when with her in person but don't expect her to return your calls if you have a follow-up question or two about treatment. Instead her administrative assistant will call and say that you have to make an appointment to have my question answered. On one occasion, the assistant told me that I was at risk of a stroke if I didn't see her right away. Those kind of tactics didn't sit well with me so I decided to not see her anymore. I stopped taking the medication she prescribed because it as making me sick and not lowering my BP. Today my BP is perfectly fine, 120/80 and I it's been over a year since I stopped taking the drug. No stroke, yet.

I was so impressed with the progress I was able to make after visiting this doctor. All my questions were answered, and I feel a lot more confident and hopeful about the future. They made sure every single question I had was answered, and are always available if I think of any more questions I want answered. I'm so relieved! I really felt 'heard'. They listened to me and asked lots of questions.

I've seen one or two general doctors since I've been in Burbank, and I've had bad experiences. A pal of mine who is a big shot at Disney told me about Dr. Matzer.
I was freaked out on the day of appt. No, I'm not afraid of doctors or needles--but I was just scared that I would be told I had cancer or rickets. Dr. Matzer immediately recognized my nervousness, and she did her best to calm me down. My blood pressure was somewhat high, which bummed me out even more because but she pointed out that my pulse was also high, which may have been caused by the temporary stress of getting a physical, so I calmed down. (When I came back for a followup visit, my blood pressure was normal)

She talked to me about taking better care of myself; but instead of lecturing at me, she went about it in a kind, patient, and sobering way. I was surprised that I felt as at ease with her as I did, and that feeling persisted for my followup visit. In the visits that I've had with her so far she has spent plent of time with me, and I was actually very surprised that she spent as much time during the initial appointment as she did. She was more than willing to talk and listen to my concerns, and she was deliberate and communicative throughout the process.

I have been searching for a while for a female cardiologist. My primary care doctor referred me to Dr. Lisa Matzer. She really seems to care for you as a patient. She explained my condition to me so that I could understand what was going on with me. Overall, a great doctor.
