I am a Marine Corps Veteran who was a volunteer in a S.F. Bay Area Community Based Non-Profit Organization established to help Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans and their families. As most professional caregiver know, Secondary Trauma can occur in caregivers if they do not properly attend to and take care of themselves. As a Veteran, I was suffering from my own service related trauma, but was then severely injured by a Health Care Professional who did not recognized this and did not properly attend to the Secondary Trauma I and other volunteers had taken on. Recognizing the injury caused by the Health Care Professional, Ruby reached out to me. Through her compassionate heart, she was able to help me start healing, but was also able to bring to the surface my service related and Secondary Trauma. She kindly and patiently helped my understand my injury and guided me in my healing.
I wholeheartedly 100% recommend Ruby Kamaka. I am very grateful to have found her. We connected right away. Her patience, understanding, guidance and direction helped me to overcome depression, deal with anxiety fears, and heal my mind and soul. She's caring, down to earth, and easy to talk to. She's absolutely the best!
I was having a difficult time dealing with life. Ruby helped me understand myself and deal with everyday issues without the dependence of drugs. She was available whenever I needed her. She is passoniate about what she does and it shows. I would highly recommend her.
I saw this therapist for individual counseling several years go. I found her most helpful. I discovered that I was a "highly sensitive" person which enabled me to understand myself a lot better. I learned to make my life less stressful by breaking down tasks into smaller more manageable pieces rather than a gigantic task that I had to tackle all at once. I had been a "yes" person for a very long time and this made me miserable. I knew individuals were manipulating me and I let it happen. Now, I am able to say "no" and feel okay about it and about myself. I have also learned to put the brakes on when I start to feel overwhelmed. She had me do positive actions that turned my life around. I felt at ease with her during my sessions. She was not only a good listener but a doer. Talk therapy is not enough one has to take action which she helped me to do. I highly recommend her.
