Dr McDermit was the most supportive and exhibited care and compassion well beyond the level you get with most of mental health professionals.
He saw what I didn't see apparently due to his intuition and great experience and gave me the most sound advice which I didn't follow unfortunately because I didn't believe him. A couple of years passed and
it turned out Dr McDermit was right.

I found parking right away at his office, and it was within a block of the entrance. I didn't wait long, and his reception area is quite soothing. I am able to gather my thoughts before my session begins. The appointments always start on time or within a 5 minute wait which is refreshing. He collects ethnic art which is on display so his office is like a "mini-museum." There's a friendly little dog in the office, yet he made it clear in our initial telephone conversation that the choice was up to me. The dog wouldn't be included if I didn't want her there. I decided to skip the dog, and it was as simple as that. After several sessions I asked to meet her. She's such a delightful little spirit that I changed my mind and look forward to seeing her each time I go. Dr. McDermit is a warm and engaging person which makes it easy for me to talk about whatever is on my mind. He's respectful, and I never feel judged ("What a relief!"). He's a reliable guy. He's never cancelled a session and has been prompt in answering my phone calls or emails. He does require 48 hours advance notice to avoid being billed for a scheduled appointment, but when I've given him advance notice he's made the effort to offer me an alternative time to meet. He addresses all my questions and talks like a "normal person." What I mean is that he doesn't just sit there looking at me in silence and then answer my questions with the usual, "Well, what do you think about it?". It's a real conversation which I appreciate. It's more like a "heart-to-heart" talk, and I feel like I'm engaged with a person, not just a doctor. The sessions have helped me feel a lot more confident about myself and hopeful about the future. I give him, "two thumbs up."

No, they've never taken personal calls with me

I was completely at ease during my appointment here. They went to great lengths to make sure I was completely relaxed and comfortable the entire time. They never left me for an extended period of time and I never felt ignored. All of their advice was not only unbiased, but helpful. It was nice not to have a psychologist that pushed their opinion on me, but instead genuinely wanted to help me. Their primary concern is what's best for me, and they only give me the advice that would benefit me the most.

Dr. McDermit is one of the the most attentive, caring psychologists I've ever been to .I felt at ease with him right away and felt confident that I could discuss anything with him without fear of being judged. He's invariably respectful and courteous and even has a quirky sense of humor. I've never been treated with more respect by any other professional. His professional office is really a treat. It's filled to the brim with his ethnic art collection. It was like having my therapy in a private museum. Discussing my concerns in front of his fireplace felt so calming. I also enjoyed having his dog, CoCo, there with us. He let me know from the first telephone call that it was up to me whether I wanted her around or not. Whenever I call and leave a message, he always gets back to me soon. It is better to reach him by phone as he's not much of a computer guy. I can recommend him without any hesitation. He's a real person and doesn't hide behind being "the doctor."
