I took the teacher training program at this studio and I do not suggest it. Even though the teachers are friendly for the most part, the training itself was a mess. I was allowed to start the program late and even though I was allowed to do this, the teacher often told me how she regretted letting me start late even though I made up all the required work and showed up to make up the days I missed. I got tired of hearing it and I felt it was completely rude, especially since I was paying over $1,000 for the training.
When I joined, many of the other students were already complaining about the quality of the program. I stood up for the teacher several times and just thought she was having an off-day. The main complaint the other students had was she couldn't stay on task and we spent more time talking than doing yoga.
Well, as I continued the program, I found that she wasn't having an off day and they were right. That was just how the training went. We learned more from a book than anything else. She would gave us several books that talked about how hot yoga was dangerous, but she offered hot yoga at her studio and then didn't understand WHY I didn't want to take the hot yoga classes. Some part of me highly doubts she has entirely read the books she has you buy.
The training was more talking than doing. Yet the teacher was angry that I didn't seem to be progressing physically. She dwelled on my weight for the entire teacher training. I am a small female and this is how I have always been. She couldn't make it through one class without mentioning my weight or health, normally in front of everyone. She even asked me to go up to another skinny woman and explain to her my health issues because she thought she "may have it too". I went into the class with a genetic liver problem which wasn't as big of a deal as the teacher made it out to be. I even had to offer to get a note from my doctor so, she would stop bringing it up.
So, I wasn't surprised when the teacher wanted me to retake the entire program again (the whole program is a year long.) because she felt I wasn't physically ready to be a teacher. She talked about how every single one of her students wasn't ready to teach, but hired some of them to work at her studio and let everyone else move on. Basically because they had complained the entire program. Because I backed her up, I guess she thought I would agree with her on holding me back.
It made no sense to retake a program that was mainly reading to become more "physically able", so I decided to just leave it at that. I never got my certification from her because I didn't go back after that. I was simply tired of hearing about my weight and physical health from my yoga teacher. In my mind, she isn't a doctor and it isn't her business.
Overall, the whole program costs too much for what it is. We were shoved off onto other teachers when our main teacher had something else to do. And the main teacher couldn't stop worrying about what was wrong with the students long enough to realize she needed to work on her teaching abilities.
I thought the training would be a spiritual experience for me. It turned into a nightmare. I wouldn't do it again and I wish I hadn't done it in the first place.
