I joined Meridians Sports Club at 1299 4th Street in San Rafael, CA. in October 2007. A few months into my membership, I decided to use the shower facilities. I didn’t want to use them because I heard from so many current and former members that they were extremely dirty. I decided to take a chance. A few weeks later I started to get little red bite like bumps all over my legs and groin area. I went to the doctor and he told me that I have scabies. Scabies is a very itchy skin condition caused by tiny that burrow into your skin he told me. I asked where I could have gotten them and he told me that people can get them by sharing towels, bed sheets, and other personal belongings. I live alone and am single, so he and I came to the conclusion that I got them at the gym from their towels.

Scabies will not go away on its own. You need to use a special cream or lotion that a doctor prescribes. In severe cases, your doctor may also give you pills to take. It will take your body that long to get over the allergic reaction caused by the mites. If you still have symptoms after 4 weeks, you have a serious problem.

I brought up the fact that I had gotten scabies from the gym towels to the management (Wayne) and he told me that I was crazy and needed to find another gym if I want satisfied with their establishment. I wanted to cancel my membership right then and Wayne told me that I was still under contract and that I needed to finish my 6 month membership before I could cancel. I still had 3 more months. I tried reasoning with him and asked for his boss’s name. At that point he told me to get out of his face and said to contact a lawyer if I wanted to take further action.

I would never recommend this gym to anyone I know, even people that I hate. Wayne has the worst customer service of any person that I have ever met and I hope that no one joins that gym after reading this response.
