2 large onions, thinly sliced
½ cup margarine
2 (10.5 ounce) cans beef consommé
2 (10.5 ounce) cans beef broth
2 cups water
1 cup white wine
8 ounces thinly sliced Swiss cheese
12 slices of French bread
In a large pot over medium heat, sauté onions in margarine for about five minutes or until tender.
Add the consommé, broth, water, and wine, and cook on low heat for 40 minutes.
Preheat an oven to 300 degrees F.
Place one slice of Swiss cheese in the bottom of individual ovenproof bowls. Layer a slice of bread on top of each slice, then ladle in the hot soup. Top with another slice of bread and then Swiss cheese.
Place the bowls in the oven and bake until the cheese is completely melted.
Serve hot.
