Dr. Helfgott is the Clinical Director of the Transplant-Oncology Infectious Diseases Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He received his M.D. from Yale University. Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Helfgott completed both his Internal Medicine residency and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He also served as Chief Resident.Dr. Helfgott provides comprehensive care to patients with hematologic malignancies as well as transplant recipients. He has been included in New York Magazine’s “The Best Doctors in New York,” The New York Times Magazine’s “New York Super Doctors,” and Castle Connolly’s “The Best Doctors in New York.”Dr. Helfgott has served as principal investigator in several multicenter clinical trials studying the efficacy of the antifungal drug posaconazole in preventing invasive fungal infection in patients with leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome. He has studied the role of interleukin-6 in the pathogenesis of infections and more recently has studied the immunologic response to Covid-19 vaccination in patients with leukemia. He has authored many scientific publications and contributed numerous book chapters and reviews on various topics in infectious diseases.
