Keith Martin

Dr. Keith Martin is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is a general pediatrician and attending physician in the Johns Hopkins Harriet Lane Clinic and the Johns Hopkins/Baltimore Medical System (BMS) Pediatrics at Yard 56, where he serves as faculty affiliate at the Center for Salud/Health and Opportunity for Latinos (Centro SOL). Dr. Martin’s research focuses on the identification of best practices for screening for trauma and resilience in Latinx youth in immigrant families in primary care settings. He joined the faculty in 2021.

Dr. Martin is an expert in screening and intervention to address immigrant child trauma in primary care using community-based participatory mixed method approaches. He is funded by a National Institutes of Health / National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NIH / NICHD) K23 Career Development Award MOSAICO: Modifying and Optimizing a Screener of Adverse Immigrant Childhood Occurrences for Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) in Pediatric Settings. Dr. Martin is a past recipient of the JHU SOM Clinician Scientist Career Development Award, a competitive program that seeks to protect the research time of qualified young faculty by addressing the problem of increasing pressures on young faculty to expend substantial clinical effort to generate sufficient funds to support their salaries. He was recently selected as a Health Disparities Research Institute Scholar through the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), a national, competitive research and career development program that seeks to support promising early-career minority health and health disparity research scientists. Dr. Martin’s qualitative study of immigration-related trauma and resilience in Latinx children in immigrant families received an Academic Pediatric Association (APA) Young Investigator Award, a competitive, national research and career development award for pediatric fellows and early career faculty. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, he received a COVID-19 Critical Community Challenge Grant from the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Learning at the University of Cincinnati/Cincinnati Children’s to identify how critical knowledge gaps about COVID-19 prevention behaviors and quarantine practices influence the health and well-being of Latinx adults in Cincinnati.

Since July 2023, he has served as faculty lead of a youth advisory board with Latinx teenagers aged 13-17 years old that are current patients at the Johns Hopkins/BMS Pediatrics at Yard 56. In this role, he mentors a group of Spanish bilingual students to facilitate youth’s conduction of youth participatory action research (YPAR) to improve their lives, communities, and the institutions intended to serve them.

A graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Martin completed a residency in pediatrics at Children's Mercy Kansas City and a fellowship in general pediatrics research at Cincinnati Children's. He holds a M.S. in Biomedical Sciences from Tufts University School of Medicine and a M.S. in Clinical and Translational Research from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
