Schmidt received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Stevenson University in Maryland, and she completed her doctorate in nursing practice at the University of Maryland. She has more than13 years of clinical experience in neurology, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, orthopaedics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic surgery and palliative care.
She also treats chronic pain resulting from nerve damage with scrambler therapy, a noninvasive way to “reset” the central nervous system to relieve pain. This therapy is used to treat multiple nerve pain conditions including chronic intractable back and neck pain, postlaminectomy syndrome, pain after joint replacement, peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia (pain after shingles), lumbar radiculopathy, cervical radiculopathy and central neuropathic pain.
Schmidt devotes her practice to patient-centered and family-centered care that fosters physical and mental health, well-being and quality of life. She is a member of the CurePSP Patient and Caregiver Advocacy Committee and the Access to Care Committee. This allows her to act as a patient advocate and playing a role in community outreach, education, improvement of access to care and health equity, as well as providing resources and support for patients with MSA, CBS and PSP.
