Joseph Marconni Sewell-Araya, MD, is an esteemed urologist dedicated to providing exceptional care to his patients. Dr. Sewell-Araya, a native Spanish-speaking urologist, understands the nuances of Latin American Hispanic culture. He tailors his patient care to accommodate the diverse backgrounds of Hispanic individuals, ensuring a culturally sensitive and personalized approach to health care. He currently sees patients at Northwell Smith Institute for Urology in Syosset and Glen Cove. With his extensive training and expertise in urology, Dr. Sewell-Araya offers a comprehensive range of urological services to patients of all ages. Dr. Sewell-Araya received his MD from Escuela Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas in Costa Rica, demonstrating his commitment to a strong foundation in medical education. He completed his first residency year of residency in General Surgery at the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis, followed by a residency in Urology at Universidad De Costa Rica. To further enhance his knowledge and skills, Dr. Sewell-Araya pursued a fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, specializing in Advanced Minimally Invasive Urology and Robotic Surgery. Specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of urological conditions including prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, testicular cancer, Enlarged Prostate (BPH), overactive bladder (urinary frequency), erectile dysfunction, and kidney stones. Proficient in providing comprehensive urological care utilizing advanced surgical therapies such as Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP), Green Light Laser, REZUM, Aquablation, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), semirigid and flexible ureteroscopy. As an Assistant Professor at the prestigious Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, Dr. Sewell-Araya actively contributes to the education and mentorship of future physicians. His dedication to academic excellence ensures that he stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in urological care.
