Shelly Smith is a Certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in gastroenterology at Monument Health in Rapid City. A proud graduate of Central High School and Black Hills State University, Shelly initially earned a double major in Mass Communications and Communication Art. After working in her field for a year, she realized she missed her calling in medicine. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan in 2007 and worked in both ER and ICU in a Level II Trauma Center in Pontiac, Michigan. She went on to complete her graduate degree in Family Nurse Practition studies in 2015. Shortly after graduation she returned to South Dakota and began her career in Inpatient Gastroenterology. Now with nearly a decade of experience in inpatient GI care, she transitioned to outpatient gastroenterology to continue her passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
Outside of work, Shelly is a dedicated wife and mother who enjoys cheering on her kids at their sporting events. When she finds a rare moment of free time, she loves to travel, hike, bike and read.
