What I Do My first job in health care was as a nurse’s aide in a nursing home. I was hooked right away. I could not afford to go directly into an RN program, so first I became a licensed practical nurse. Then, I took steps to advance my career to get me where I am today: associate degree registered nurse, bachelor’s degree registered nurse and a nurse practitioner degree. At each level, I had the support of my family and employers. Currently, I specialize in cardiology with clinical interests in left atrial appendage occlusion, atrial fibrillation, patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects. Why I Love My Work I enjoy working in cardiology because, as a specialty, it is challenging and embraces excellence.
