Joyce Lee-Iannotti
Joyce K. Lee-Iannotti, MD, FAAN, FAASM, is the interim director of the Petznick Stroke Center and the inaugural director of the Sleep Division at Barrow Neurological Institute, as well as a professor of neurology at both the Institute and the University of Arizona College of Medicine—Phoenix. She is board certified in general neurology, vascular neurology, and sleep medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Additionally, she holds a certification in the interpretation of transcranial Doppler ultrasound for neurovascular diseases from the American Society of Neuroimaging.
Dr. Lee-Iannotti’s expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of neurovascular diseases and sleep disorders, with a particular specialty in central disorders of hypersomnia (e.g. narcolepsy), REM sleep behavior disorder, and sleep-wake disturbances in long COVID. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and chair of its Sleep Section. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Within the AASM, she is the chair of the Sleep Medicine Fellowship Directors Council Steering Committee, a member of the AASM Advocacy Committee, and a task force member of the AASM Focused Update on Diagnostic Testing for Adult Obstructive Sleep Apnea Guidelines. Additionally, she directs the AASM Board of Directors and the AASM Foundation Board of Directors.
Dr. Lee-Iannotti earned her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. She completed both her neurology residency and a sleep medicine fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. She also completed a fellowship in stroke and cerebrovascular diseases at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.
Dr. Lee-Iannotti’s research interests include REM sleep behavior disorder, narcolepsy, neuro-COVID syndromes, and the intersection of sleep apnea and stroke. She is also deeply engaged in medical education and advocacy.
