Dr. Tabassian earned a B.S. and Ph.D. with honors from George Washington University and an M.D. with honors from the Medical College of Virginia, where he completed his residency in Ophthalmology. He pursued a fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal diseases at the University of Iowa before returning to Richmond in 1996 as an Assistant Professor at MCV. He founded the Retina Institute of Virginia and remains active in teaching. Board-certified, he is a fellow of the AAO and a member of ASRS. His expertise includes retinal detachments, vascular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
