In a medical specialty where physicians of color are extremely underrepresented (the National Institutes of Health reports less than 6% of dermatologists identify as Hispanic, and 5% as African American), Dr Oliver is proud to have trained under some of the country’s best dermatologists and pioneers in skin of color. Dr Oliver has a special interest in pigmentary disorders, which refers to conditions involving excess melanin pigment deposition in the skin, or “hyperpigmentation” in which skin is abnormally dark. These conditions tend to be more common and more severe in darker skin types.
