About Dr. Fletcher
It was during an appointment with a pediatrician, that McKindra Fletcher, MD, started to think about becoming a doctor.
A graduate of University of Illinois, Urbana, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree, Dr. Fletcher went on to earn his medical degree at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, IL. He completed medical internships at University of California-Irvine, Orange, CA, and Veterans Administration Hospital, Long Beach, CA. For an internal medicine residency, he returned to his alma mater, Southern Illinois University. Finally, a cardiology fellowship was fulfilled at University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago.
The list of procedures Dr. Fletcher performs includes: Coronary Angiography; Left Ventricular Angiography; Right and Left Heart Catheterizations; Coronary Interventional Procedures including Balloon Angioplasty; Stent Deployment; Thrombus Aspiration; Rotational Athrectomy; Intravascular Lithotripsy; Intravascular Ultrasound; Ocular Coherence Tomography; and Peripheral Angiography and Intervention.
In addition to performing surgeries, Dr. Fletcher has held various administrative positions at hospitals and health centers, such as medical director, chief of staff and, most recently, Chairman, Department of Cardiology.
Intrigued by cardiology classes during medical school, he was led to pursue this specialty, where he diagnoses and treats heart disease. Dr. Fletcher says, “I listen carefully to patients and recommend treatment relative to that particular patient. I treat my patients they way I would want to be treated.
Through the years, he says he has learned that patients appreciate honest and sincerity. Dr. Fletcher hopes that above all else, his patients know he genuinely cares about them.
