I'm a board-certified gastroenterologist specializing in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. As the Director of the Crohn's and Colitis Center at University of Vermont Medical Center, I lead a multidisciplinary team of nurses, dietitians, social workers and infusion specialists across six hospitals in UVM Health. We serve patients in Vermont and neighboring states, including New York, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
My areas of expertise include inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, pouchitis, pouch disorders, immune checkpoint inhibitor colitis, immunotherapy-related toxicities, IBD transition care and rural health.
I earned my medical degree from Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi, one of India’s top medical schools. I then completed a rigorous combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School (UTHealth) in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, followed by a Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
I believe that true healing lies in the details. By understanding each patient’s unique story down to its smallest threads, we can weave together a treatment plan that honors their journey. I am committed to expanding access to equitable, evidence-based care and ensuring each patient feels heard, supported and confidently guided through their IBD journey.
My approach involves a treat-to-target strategy: I set clear goals such as symptom relief and evidence of healing on tests and adjust treatments until those targets are achieved. I specialize in chromoendoscopy, a dye-based colonoscopy technique that reveals subtle inflammation, to guide surveillance and treatment decisions. I also integrate comprehensive nutrition guidance into each care plan and provide vigilant oversight of clinical trial participants to ensure safety and optimal outcomes.
Known for my compassionate communication and thorough patient education, I cover all aspects of treatment — medications, lifestyle modifications and follow-up strategies — to empower patients at every step. I partner closely with each patient to tailor care around their lifestyle, preferences and personal goals.
