I started my career as an operating room nurse and enjoyed that role for eight years before deciding to advance my career and earned master's degree and become a family nurse practitioner. My years in the OR are useful as I educate patients on their surgical options and help them understand which might be best for them. Surgical advancements are always evolving - and they always amaze me. I still enjoy being part of a surgical team, and I especially love seeing the improvements patients make after surgical intervention. My philosophy on patient care stems from my belief that clinicians need to treat the whole person. We have to consider mental and emotional health alongside physical health. In my role as a Novant mental health first responder, I provide a holistic approach to each patient. I'm a lifelong learner who's always seeking knowledge and new experience to apply to my work. I grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and love calling this state home. I can see why so many people are moving here from other regions of the country. Camping, hiking, walking (especially on the beach), church activities and crafting are among my hobbies. I especially love making homemade candles. My husband and I have four grown children and two grandchildren who keep us busy. My older Yorkie - still full of energy and good at playing fetch - is also part of my family.
