About
As a gynecologic surgeon, I have the skills and training to perform surgery but that doesn't mean that surgery is always the right choice. It can be an incredible one though. I work with my patients to figure out what solution is best for them. I believe in a holistic and preventive approach to health and in the broad advances in medicine we've made. It's been a joy and honor to be a source of support for women in all stages of their life and to offer solutions to problems they may have from ages 13 to 93 (sometimes even a broader age range than that!).
I help my patients navigate issues that include family planning/contraception, sexual health/wellness, pregnancy, fertility, pelvic pain, pelvic infections, abnormal bleeding, gender dysphoria, perimenopause and menopause.
I was born and raised in the suburbs of Atlanta. My parents were born in India - my mom raised in New York City from a young age, while my dad grew up in Mumbai. My family is from the southwest coast of India, where the Portuguese colonized, so my last name confuses people and is technically Portuguese!
Outside of the clinic, I love being outside, eating delicious food, traveling to and exploring new places, listening to live music, dancing - all made sweeter with the company of my partner and any family or friends who can join us.
I was very lucky to attend the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs) and the Medical College of Georgia, and become an ob-gyn in Burlington, Vermont, at the University of Vermont Medical Center. I am a Fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and certified in laparoscopic surgery. While at Vermont, I received the Resident Research Award for the OB/GYN department and was also Clinical Resident of the Year.

At an early age, I loved the intersection of science and social justice, which made medicine an easy choice. In undergrad at University of Georgia, I took a seminar class focused on the U.N.'s millennial development goals. It was clear to me that women's health access, women's reproductive care and women's education were themes identified repeatedly.As a gynecologic surgeon, I have the skills and training to perform surgery but that doesn't mean that surgery is always the right choice.
