About
Jeff Hardin
I am privileged to be the lead physician of integrative medicine at Novant Health. Integrative medicine combines the best of conventional medicine with a wide array of supportive, complementary and holistic measures. We use the wisdom and power of the world's ancient traditions, combined with current research-supported treatments, to optimally treat and support the whole person. It is not alternative medicine; it's inclusive medicine.
Although our clinic's primary focus is on cancer patients, we treat any patient looking to improve their health, delay the effects of aging and/or manage chronic conditions.
When I was 16, I watched a NOVA documentary on Public Broadcasting Service about cancer and knew immediately what I wanted to do with my life. I took a hiatus from medical school to work in cancer research and completed a doctorate in cancer molecular biology, which showed me how laboratory research can be translated into patient care.
Before joining Novant Health, I spent over two decades in emergency medicine, which gave me a broad perspective on acute, interventional medicine and inspired a strong desire to tend to the whole person rather than an ad hoc approach to healing.
I also spent a decade training in and practicing acupuncture and herbal, longevity and integrative medicine. As a result, my approach to healthcare is not reactive and problem-oriented, but proactive and holistic.
During a consultation with me, patients can expect a comprehensive review of their health that includes a thorough medical history, discussion of current health challenges and exploration of goals for healing and well-being. I make personalized, patient-centered, actionable recommendations to empower patients to achieve optimal health and wellness. Body, mind, spirit and community are all part of every patient's care plan.
Our clinic offers a range of resources including nutritional interventions, consultations with registered dietitians, exercise programs, acupuncture, herbal medicines, supplements, therapeutic massage, hypnotherapy, aromatherapy, music therapy, meditation classes, yoga, breathing exercises, psychosocial support and more.
My wife and I - along with our four cats - moved from Sedona, Arizona, to Charlotte in 2022 and immediately fell in love with the area. My hobbies and my clinical interests are closely related and include exercise, meditation and studying all things related to the human condition. In addition to teaching mindfulness meditation, I have written books on meditation and founded a nonprofit that combines meditation with community service and overseas medical missions.
Meditation has given me a deep connection to and appreciation of life and its mysteries. It has also made me happier, kinder and more relaxed.
