About
Ziad Hage
I first fell in love with medicine while shadowing my father, who is a medical oncologist. However, I knew I wanted to train in a surgical specialty, and when I first discovered the complexity of the nervous system, I was attracted to neurosurgery.
Cerebrovascular neurosurgery is a highly technical specialty, demanding the utmost rigor, compassion and surgical skills. Today, I am a board-certified cerebrovascular, endovascular and skull base neurosurgeon and lead physician for cranial and endovascular neurosurgery at Novant Health.
Through my different career roles, leadership positions, memberships in exclusive and prestigious medical and surgical societies, as well as a focus on lifelong personal learning, my pledge is to always deliver the best and most up-to-date care for my patients, combining state-of-the-art technology with utmost compassion.
My main interests are stroke research and education. I am a reviewer for multiple high impact journals covering stroke and have given multiple national and international presentations on the subject. As one of the few neurosurgeons in the country to use the latest technology to treat highly complex vascular conditions and perform brain bypass surgery, I am always looking for ways to improve patient outcomes through new developments. In fact, I was the first person in North Carolina to perform minimally invasive surgical evacuation of a deep brain bleed using a state-of-the-art controlled neuro-suction device - all through an opening the size of a pencil and with the help of a camera.
At Novant Health, I am always advocating for the newest technology. To date, we are the only institution in North Carolina and the six surrounding states to have the NOVA software, which uses MRI technology to create a 3D model of the brain and allows for volumetric flow measurements. NOVA helps in both planning and decision-making for complex cerebrovascular and endovascular procedures.
Some of my other roles include serving as an adjunct associate professor in the department of surgery at Campbell University - School of Osteopathic Medicine, allowing me to stay involved in both student and resident education. I am also a member of the board of directors and Neurosurgery Society Liaison of the American College of Surgeons, North Carolina Chapter.
Outside of the office, I love spending time with my lovely wife, three beautiful children and playful huskimo. Together, we enjoy boating, fishing, water sports, tennis, skiing and traveling.
