Liza Johannesson, MD, PhD, is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a uterus transplant surgeon. She also serves as the Medical Director of the Uterus Transplant Program at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Early in her career she had a great passion for women's health. Following her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, she started working with gynecologic cancer surgery. There she met women where their uterus had to be removed and with that not only the cancer but also the ability to become pregnant. She saw first hand how devastating infertility can be and that sparked an interest in research. She presented her PhD thesis on uterus transplantation in animal models in Sweden, in 2012.
