Dr Jantzen Thorns was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army. Following basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Dr Thorns was trained as a combat medic at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, and then as a licensed vocational nurse at Eisenhower Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia.
Dr Thorns joined the Army in 1999. After completing his training, Jantzen was stationed at Darnall Army Community Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas. He worked as a licensed vocational nurse on the cardiac care unit and moonlighted as a med-surg LPN throughout central Texas.
