I am the type of provider that likes to go beyond the reason that the patient is in front of me. I try to get to know patients and understand their values and differences. Then I can know where they are coming from and be the best care provider I can be. I take very careful notes on patients, their family, pets and other aspects of their life, as well as their health care delivery. This information helps me and other providers foster real connections with our patients. A good day for me is being able to reflect on patients and seeing where they are coming from. It makes me feel that I'm doing something valuable. I spent the early part of my career working in clinical labs, but there was always that missing piece, building human relationships. Being a nurse practitioner has been very rewarding in this regard. A successful outcome for me when I'm able to actually touch a patient personally. When I am able to help them through difficult times, it's very rewarding as a provider and these patients are very appreciative.
