Dr Velji's initial passion for medicine was sparked when volunteering at a hospital in Africa.  As a sophomore in college, Dr Velji faced his family's biggest challenge when his mother, aged 48, was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer.  He still remembers the shock, fear, and anxiety that struck the family; they were blindsided and clueless. He became her primary caregiver through her treatment and appointments, researching her medications.  This became the beginning of Dr Velji's journey in cancer medicine. Through medical school, he gravitated toward patients/families that were experiencing the same turmoil.
