I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa but was born in Canada and was raised in a bilingual home speaking Spanish and English. I was a critical care registered nurse at a level one trauma center for 7 years before I decided to pursue my advanced practice nursing degree from Georgetown University. While working in the CCU, I witnessed a lot of chronic medical problems become acute and life threatening. I participated in discussions that I felt would have been more meaningful, had they occurred prior to a crisis. That is what motivated me to become a family nurse practitioner. My husband and I joined Holy Family Memorial together in 2015 and he practices as a general surgeon.
