A high school science teacher arranged a trip for our class to explore science careers, and I felt drawn to medicine, so that I could help demystify it for others,' she said.

'Not having access to medical care as a child and young adult influenced my philosophy, plus my liberal arts background- literature, philosophy and critical thinking,' she said.
