My guiding principles in caring for my patients or in teaching and mentoring my trainees in Infectious diseases have been the 3 C's (Curiosity, Creativity, and Compassion). Curiosity, both intellectual and empathic helps better understand patient's illness and suffering. Creativity helps us tailor solutions specific to the patient's needs. Compassion and genuinely caring for others will not only make us treat them like family and friends, but will also give us meaning and purpose in our day to day work. These are the same attributes that make a good teacher and a good student.
