About Katie Schramm
Helping people stay healthy through regular check-ups, helping them figure out why they are sick or hurting and helping treat an illness or injury, sums up what Katie Schramm, FNP, does in her role as a health care provider. She has always loved figuring out the best ways for people to feel better quickly and effectively.
“Ever since I can remember, I was interested in either being a pediatrician or a nurse,” Katie says. “I have always been interested in helping people stay healthy or get to a better place in regards to their health.”
Katie earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI, and her Master of Science in Nursing from Goshen College, Goshen, IN. As a Registered Nurse she has worked in Pediatric ICU, adult and pediatric emergency department, inpatient oncology and as a primary care Family Nurse Practitioner. She is also an assistant professor of nursing at Goshen College.
Even with experience and formal education behind her, Katie says she is constantly reminded of how much she still has to learn. “My patients challenge me to think more critically, to think outside the box, and how to connect in different ways with different people,” she says.
She wants those she treats to know that she wants what is best for them. Katie says her goal is to give her patients a plan they can and will follow and complete. “There are so many possible barriers that can keep patients from completing their treatment, so I try to identify those right away,” she says.
Her philosophy is to never cause harm to anyone and to provide the best care she can, for each patient.
